Webster Tarpley’s Synthetic Planes

In a preview of Webster Tarpley's upcoming book, Synthetic Terror, Made in USA, we see that Tarpley is indicating that planes struck both the North and South Towers of the WTC on 9/11/01. Here are some excerpts:

  • Louie Cacchioli, aged 51, was a firefighter attached to Engine Company 47, based uptown in Harlem. 'We were the first ones in the second tower after the plane struck,' Cacchioli recounted later.
  • Teresa Veliz was a manager for a software development firm. She was on the 47th floor of the North Tower when American 11 struck.
  • "'My opinion is, based on the videotapes, that after the airplanes hit the World Trade Center there were some explosive devices inside the buildings that causd the towers to collapse," [Van Romero, vice president for research at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology].
  • An extremely serious aspect of the botched investigation of the World Trade Center events involved the issue of the four black boxes from the two planes (American 11 and United 175) - a cockpit voice recorder and a flight data reporter from each plane. The official version, as codified by the 9/11 commission, claims that not one of these black boxes was ever found. But a New York City firefighter named Nicholas De Masi claimed that he escorted FBI agents into the WTC ruins and helped them to find and recover three of the four missing black boxes. DeMasi's account is supported by the WTC volunteer Mike Bellone, who said that he had seen at least one black box being taken from the wreckage. The three black boxes were removed from the wreckage with the help of DeMasi's all terrain vehicle, according to this account. Then the three black boxes were taken away from the FBI and have never been heard of again. The black boxes of the two planes that apparently hit the WTC are the only cases in which black boxes from jetliners have not been recovered. DeMasi wrote about this experience in his book Ground Zero: Behind the Scenes, which was published by Trauma Recovery and Assistance for Children (TRAC Team) in 2003. Here DeMasi recals: 'There were a total of four black boxes. We found three.'"

This author has little respect for Webster Tarpley's foray into what Webfairy appropriately terms the "911 Half Truth Movement." For Tarpley to ignore so much circumstantial evidence that no plane struck the WTC tarnishes the respect he has earned with much of his other writing.

In the first place, Tarpley is ignoring the witnesses who never saw a plane strike either the North or South Towers even though they were watching the WTC. (I'm not mentioning these witnesses to protect their privacy.)

Second, Tarpley is ignoring this author's research and commentary, as well as the prodigious research and analyses of Webfairy and Gerard Holmgren.

Third, Tarpley is ignoring the widely reported story that a supervisor destroyed the air traffic control tapes recorded on 9/11. If there were really hijackers flying planes why were these tapes destroyed?

Fourth, Tarpley cites Ground Zero: Behind the Scenes for confirmation that there were black boxes recovered from the demolished WTC complex. However, the same resource fails to include any photographs of any plane parts supposedly found afterwards. In addition, Behind the Scenes fails to corroborate Tarpley's belief that the Towers fell from controlled demolitions. It also fails to mention that anyone who photographed the rubble after 9/11/01 was threatened with arrest, and their documentation destroyed by the authorities on the scene. Also, Behind the Scenes fails to adequately describe World Trade Center Seven's state before it suddenly collapsed around 5:25 p.m. on 9/11/01. Finally, the last page of Behind the Scenes contains a photograph of US Marines posing in a field with the handwritten caption "We're coming Motherf*$**rs" above it. Clearly, this photograph is included for propaganda purposes on behalf of the military aggression which followed the events of 9/11/01. Exactly why Tarpley puts so much trust behind the recollections of witnesses cited in Ground Zero: Behind the Scenes is not clear.

Sadly, Webster Tarpley is promoting the official story that planes struck the WTC. In doing this he is sacrificing his famous reputation for probity.
